And OPENLAB‘s Spring Term continues.
Our next OPENLAB will be a ‘White Canvas’ session; Friday 2 February 2018, 10 AM-12 PM at Chisenhale Dance Space’s Research Studio.
Our next ‘Facilitated OL’ session will take place on Friday 9 February 2018 and it will be with Valeria Caboi: EYE LIE RESEARCH, a three-hour long session, 10 AM-1 PM, also at CDS’s Reseach Studio
EYE LIE RESEARCH
This proposal is based on the EYE LIE research conducted by performer and dance teacher Valeria Caboi, around the reactions of the human body when the sense of sight is neglected. The main aim is to explore the perception of sound, touch, space, gravity and the relation with other’s bodies without the use of sight. Participants will be asked to stay with eyes closed or blindfolded for most of the time, but also to observe and to give verbal inputs to others sometimes. Unsighted attendants are welcome and strongly encouraged to participate.
The EYE LIE research is based on exercises that mix visual art learning techniques, architecture and the perceptual learning of contemporary dance and physical theatre. It encourages dancers to create images and drawings in the space with their own body, living imaginary and coloured maps in the air. This way of exploring movement is influenced and inspired by Gaga Technique, Release, Contact Improvisation and the Laban Method.
OPENLAB sessions are open to any performers: dancers, musicians, actors and anyone interested in presence and awareness in performance.
The facilitators of OPENLAB are also participants “in” the session and participants can propose their ideas for a future session. If you’d like to know more about this, come to one of our sessions or email Antonio de la Fe (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The sessions function on a pay-what-you-can contribution basis to cover expenses and as an incentive for the facilitator of the session. We suggest a £7 contribution for the 3-hour long sessions (‘Facilitated OL’ sessions).
